Located along the picturesque waterfront of Halifax, The Bicycle Thief perfectly marries exquisite Italian cuisine with stunning views. Reviewers rave about the unforgettable dining experience, emphasizing the exceptional service and the delightful ambiance that transforms a meal into a special occasion. Cassandra Currie highlighted the unforgettable flavors and beautiful plating of dishes like the freshly made red ravioli, recommending their sumptuous sauces as worth savoring alone.
Many diners appreciate the attentive and warm service, such as Becky C., who celebrated an anniversary on the scenic patio, where staff provided thoughtful touches like blankets. Meanwhile, Rick Morgan expressed that the restaurant created a memorable experience for him and his family, noting exceptional dishes throughout his meal. Notably, Shilo Davis crowned the crab ravioli as one of the best he'd ever tasted, signifying the restaurant's focus on quality.
While some, like Gayan Pathirana, found the menu leaned towards familiar offerings, the overall consensus remains clear: The Bicycle Thief stands out for its atmosphere, service, and certain stellar dishes, making it a must-visit for those in search of a memorable dining experience on Halifax's charming boardwalk.

Fantastic. Amazing flavors, perfect technical execution, and lovely plating - plus a very attractive interior, right down to the ladies room. The pasta for the red ravioli is freshly made on site. The sauces for the scallops and pasta were good enough I’d have eaten them with a spoon as soups. Great location - the waterfront patio is probably amazing in the summer. And excellent service to round it off.

Absolutely astounding meal. We enjoyed it thoroughly. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anybody that would like a wonderful meal with a view, right down on the boardwalk. We sat outside, and the kind waitstaff brought over a blanket for me since I was getting a little chilly. The restaurant was packed, but the staff were still attentive. We greatly appreciated it. It was a pricier meal, for sure, but for an anniversary dinner, it was certainly worth it.

Everyone we spoke to about Halifax mentioned this place. It’s clearly a local favorite—almost a point of pride. So we came in with high expectations. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a great patio and truly excellent service. The vibe is polished, and you can tell the team knows how to run a smooth operation. But... the food didn’t wow me. I had the lobster roll, and while it was fine, we’d had better elsewhere during our trip. Given all the hype, I left a bit underwhelmed. One thing I noticed—the same group seems to own several spots along the waterfront. They’re well-run, no doubt, but they lean heavily into the safe, Western fare that suits the tourist crowd. Nothing wrong with that, but if you’re looking for something bold or unexpected, this might not be the place. Still, for the views and service alone, it’s worth a visit. Just go in with your expectations in check.

5 Stars – A Truly Unforgettable Dining Experience! We recently celebrated our 80th birthdays with a dinner we’ll never forget, joined by our wonderful son and daughter-in-law. From the moment we arrived, the evening was perfect in every way. Arda, our incredible server, went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and cared for. Their warm, attentive service truly elevated the night. The food—from First Gear (appetizers) to Second and High Gears—was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was a highlight, expertly prepared and full of flavor. Without a doubt, it was the best meal we’ve had in Halifax. Sharing this special occasion with family in such a warm and memorable setting made the celebration even more meaningful. Thank you for creating such a remarkable experience—we’ll cherish it always.

Amazing anniversary supper. They were extremely accommodating. The food was wonderful. The crab ravioli was probably the best I have ever tasted - WELL worth it. Our server was attentive without being at all over bearing. I will be back!

A great place to dine by the waterfront for any occasion. Food: 5/5 - a great selection of food from vegan to seafood for all types of diners. We had the vegan pasta with mushrooms and lobster roll. The roll was fresh and delicious. It came with bowl salad and fries. Portions were a decent size. If you enjoy seafood, this is the place. Service: 5/5 - server was friendly and offered selections to choose from. Atmosphere: 5/5 - nice and comfy vibe to the place.

We had a wonderful experience at The Bicycle Thief! The food was absolutely delicious — the salmon was perfectly cooked and the lobster pasta was rich and full of flavour. The staff were friendly, attentive, and really helpful, which made the evening even more enjoyable. If I had one suggestion, it would be to offer a wider selection of Nova Scotia wines by the glass to showcase more of the amazing local options. Overall, a fantastic meal and great atmosphere — we’ll definitely be back!

Food: the best seafood I’ve had in my life. The service: Alex and the other staff were absolutely splendid! The atmosphere (we sat on the patio) was a bit on the rougher side, but the team provided blankets (it was a colder evening) and did almost everything to make it the best experience we could possibly have. There is a reason this restaurant was lined up out to the parking lot and booked full with reservations (patio is walk-in first-come-first-serve). We did experience one small issues with one of our dishes and it was dealt with in full force and the manager themselves came out to apologize personally. The restaurant was also super mindful of a tree nut allergy in our party and even the bussers mentioned that the plates that were made with the nut allergy in-mind! The server also double checked one dish they weren’t certain before asking us to enjoy. They really take dietary restrictions seriously (the menu has certain options available for other dietary restrictions too). Absolutely amazing service, and top-notch staff all around.
